Mack is really good about putting together music for a gathering, and it was made pretty easy using our Amazon Echo Dots.

The Dots went on sale right before Trae and Corie came to visit, so Mack asked me to order three and get T & C to pack and bring them. Amazon does deliver to Seoul, but it’s a lengthy process and then Mack has to schlep down to Camp Humphreys and haul them home on the subway.

We spent several pleasant hours the Sunday afternoon before our party, thinking up, finding and adding some of our favorite Texas songs to our playlist. There are a lot of songs about Texas!

You probably have your favorites, but I thought that my list may give you a head start on developing your own list.

BTW…making a playlist on the Dot is a piece of cake. Even I can do it! We “joined” the basic Google Play for $7.00 a month, and I haven’t found a song that is not included yet.

So, we:
1. Went to My Playlists
2. Selected +Create New Playlist
3. Entered the name for the Playlist (Texas Party Playlist)
4. Saved

Then, we laid back in our recliners and called out songs that we knew about Texas. Alexa would play a bit of the song, then we would say, “Alexa, add song to Texas Party Playlist.” How’s that for an easy way to spend a Sunday afternoon?

When we came to a standstill, I would google “Texas Songs,” which brought up more songs, which triggered thoughts of others that we had forgotten. It was a fun afternoon. I’m not sure how much the neighbors enjoyed our belting out Texas songs, but Mack and I had a blast.
The criteria for becoming a part of our playlist included:
1. About Texas
2. A Texas singer or songwriter
3. About stuff we do in Texas (pick-up trucks, dancing, drinking beer, mothers, Cowboys, dogs)
4. We heard and liked the song while we were in Texas
5. We just like the song and wanted to include it

Here’s our list. If you think of more, please add them in the comments. I think that music just adds such a fun layer to a great evening with friends. The Dot made it so easy.

Waltz Across Texas – Ernest Tubb
Galveston – Glen Campbell
The Eyes of Texas – UT Longhorn Band
Gulf Coast Highway – Willie Nelson & EmmylouHarris
Bob Wills is Still the King – WaylonJennings
Deep in the Heart of Texas – Moe Bandy
Cotton Eyed Joe – Asleep at the Wheel
Across the Border – Linda Ronstadt & Emmylou Harris
Two Silver Hearts – Shake Russell
Lake Charles – Lucinda Williams (we know…this is LA)
If I Had a Boat – Lyle Lovett
Girls From Texas – Lyle Lovett & Pat Green
Long Tall Texan – Lyle Lovett & Randy Newman
San Antonio Girl – Lyle Lovett
T is for Texas – Lyle Lovett & Robert Earl Keen
Texas Trilogy – Train Ride – Lyle Lovett
Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door – Guns and Roses
Texas – The Charlie Daniels Band
God Bless Texas – Austin City Rebels
Amarillo By Morning – George Strait
Texas (When I Die) Tanya Tucker
Texas in My Rearview Mirror – Mac Davis
You’ve Got a Lover – Shake Russell
Travelin’ Texas – Shake Russell
The Yellow Rose of Texas – Michael Martin Murphy
Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind – George Strait
All My Ex’s Live in Texas – George Strait
That’s Right: You’re Not from Texas – Lyle Lovett
Lone Star State of Mind – Nanci Griffith
Miles and Miles of Texas – Asleep at the Wheel
Streets of Laredo – Marty Robbins
What I Like About Texas – Jerry Jeff Walker
Take Me to Texas – George Strait
(Hey Baby) Que Paso – Texas Tornados
Momma’s, Don’t Let your Babies Grow up to Be Cowboys – Willie Nelson
Between Your Heart and Mine – Shake Russell
The Girl Just Loves to Dance – Shake Russell
Texas Twister – Little Foot
Aggie War Hymn – Texas A & M Marching Band

Let’s Go to Luckenbach, Texas -Waylon Jennings
Sangria Wine – Jerry Jeff Walker
Redneck Mother – Ray Wiley Hubbard
London Homesick Blues – Jerry Jeff Walker
You Never Even Called Me By My Name – David Allen Coe
Seven Spanish Angels – Willie Nelson
Pancho and Lefty – Willie Nelson
Desperado – Linda Ronstadt

I’ve already posted a lot about our Tex-Mex fiesta here in Seoul last week, but I wanted to add a bit about our music playlist.
